I've been trying lots of new techniques and generally trying to level up in art lately. Learned a lot of stuff! I think I can feel myself getting better at painting which is nice. I'm also posting some of my photoref studies so warning for censored nudity under the cut.

today they scrambled all our cable channels and required we get set-top boxes to fix it, effectively ruining a basic function of our vcr and dvrs! thanks, comcast, we totally appreciate it.

I've been pondering game systems lately. I haven't bothered with a PS3 or Xbox so far, because anything I really really wanted came out on PC as well, and my allegiance shall forever lie with the PC, followed closely by PS2 and DS. Adventure game players are rarely winners in console wars. Anywho, the only reason I've been giving it any serious thought is the idea of using it as a blu-ray player or a makeshift DVR. basically, it is the stuff of lists.

XBOX 360

PROS
• can be used as media center extender! Easy DVR!!
• seems easy enough to hack
• Games seem to be less Sony-exclusive these days
• Already have GFWL account
• I think Rock Band songs easier to buy on this one?? can't remember

CONS
• fucking halo and FPS-mad fanbase
• Some games not released on both! Chances of KH being an issue
• Online play hard on modded xboxes lolll like I care
• No Blu-Ray
• RED RING OF DEAAAAATH

PLAYSTATION 3

PROS
• I am fond of PS2! Perhaps will make me feel less dirty than xbox.
• WiFi! Delicious WiFi.
• DivX!!
• Will work with the PSP I will inevitably get for Birth by Sleep
• Blu-ray!
• Netflix streaming!
• Wait, maybe it can be a Media Center Extender, too? .... sweet.

CONS
• Hard to hack/mod :(
• Fuckin' expensive
• I can name like 2 games I'd play. Wait, this is basically the same for the Xbox. :|
• Ever so slightly harder to turn into DVR

...hm. Man. I think I'm feelin' the PS3 pretty hard, here. Blu-Ray + games + TiVo? that's... sort of awesome.

Jobhunt 09 turned up another rejection today, leaving a good 3/4 of the apps sent without replies. Siiigh. Now that my groove's back on, I can gear up to hit the big studios though, which should be good.

Sent more emails tonight. Got a rejection... yesterday? I think it was yesterday. That's better than the radio silence from all other fronts, I suppose. I wasn't expecting much from that company, anyways.

Saw 9! It was... okay. I dunno. I was expecting more, the trailers were really promising. I think its storytelling was weak. Like, the ideas were all there, but the script needed more work to tell it effectively. Visually, it's really good in some places, lacks in others (the people looked really weird and sort of like PS2 graphics or something, which really didn't mesh with how good anything mechanical looked.)

But you know, not bad or anything. Just felt a little... unfinished? Really, I think it was the story that's bringing me down so hard on it- As Pixar says, story is king, and this movie just didn't have the wrinkles ironed out.
